
Dr. Joel Parlow is Chair of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society International Education Foundation (CASIEF). He has sat on the Board of Trustees since 2009, and has volunteered on educational and research trips to Rwanda and Ethiopia. Dr. Parlow is also the Program Lead for CASIEF’s newest partnership with Haramaya University in Harar, Ethiopia, in conjunction with Queen’s University and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Parlow is Professor and past Department Head of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Queen’s University and the Kingston Health Sciences Centre. He has practiced general and cardiovascular anesthesiology for over 25 years. His medical training included medical school at University of Toronto, an internship at McGill, anesthesiology residency at Queen’s, a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Research in Lyon, France, and a Master’s degree in Pharmacology at Queen’s.
Joel’s research interests include perioperative outcomes, perioperative autonomic control of the cardiovascular system and knowledge translation in low-resource settings.
When not working in anesthesiology or global health, Joel admits to a hopeless addiction to all sports involving wind- on water, ice and land.
