Anaphylaxis is a challenge to diagnose and clinically manage in the perioperative period. Provider vigilance, a high index of suspicion, and timely treatment are necessary to ensure the successful resuscitation and safety of the patient.
In this Continuing Professional Development module, we provide a framework for the prompt diagnosis and management of perioperative anaphylaxis.

After reading this module, the reader will be able to:
1. Show an understanding of the nomenclature and pathophysiology of anaphylaxis
2. Recognize the clinical features of anaphylaxis to facilitate a prompt diagnosis
3. Implement a prioritized treatment plan for anaphylaxis
4. Initiate appropriate testing, counselling, and referral to an allergy specialist.
