We are excited to invite you to the beautiful city of St. John's, Newfoundland, for the CAS Annual Meeting. This is a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, share knowledge, and discover the latest in anesthesiology, all while enjoying the scenic charm of Newfoundland.

Take your networking experience beyond the conference by joining one of our local adventures. Explore the area's natural beauty and culture with fellow attendees in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. 

Choose from the following options:

Historic St. John's and Cape Spear (3 hours) 

Explore St. John's and its surroundings, including Cape Spear, the easternmost point in North America. Discover the region’s rich history, legends, and local stories, all shared with the humor Newfoundlanders are known for. Enjoy stunning views from Cabot Tower and Signal Hill, visit a World War II gun battery, and spot whales and seabirds. Other highlights include Quidi Vidi Village, Jelly Bean Row, Government House, the Roman Catholic Basilica, and a tour of downtown shops and restaurants.

outports and lucky rocks (3 hours) 

Take a scenic drive along the rugged coastline to the Ocean Sciences Center, where you can visit the touch tank, seal observatory, and finger rocks in Logy Bay. At Middle Cove’s pebble beach, search for lucky rocks or dip your toes in the icy waters. In Flatrock, admire the natural slipways used by local fishermen and the hillside ‘Grotto’ where Pope John Paul II blessed the fleet. Along the way, enjoy Newfoundland folklore, humor, and culture, and watch for icebergs, whales, seabirds, and capelin in season.

bird island boat tour (4 hours) 

Drive along the Southern Shore to Bay Bulls, where we'll take a boat tour with O'Brien's to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve Bird Islands, home to millions of puffins, murres, and kittiwakes. Watch for whales, which are frequently spotted in this rich marine environment, and keep an eye out for icebergs in late spring and early summer.

ferryland on the irish loop (7 hours) 

Take a scenic drive along the Southern Shore, winding through coastal communities on Newfoundland’s Irish Loop. Discover the region's rich history, including the recently uncovered Ferryland settlement, which played a key role in the British Empire’s expansion. Enjoy a delightful lunch, walk along ancient cobblestone streets, and explore luxury items from the past at the interpretation center.

excursion around the bay (7 hours) 

Take an "Excursion Around the Bay" to visit the charming outport communities of Conception Bay, rich in stories of pirates, WW2 submarine attacks, transatlantic aviation, Arctic exploration, and North America’s first European colony. Enjoy scenic stops, local delicacies, and meet fun characters, offering a true Newfoundland experience filled with great times, great people, and great food.
