Ace it! A Prep Course for the Royal College Exam
In response to sizeable enthusiasm from our resident members, CAS is thrilled to be hosting a Royal College certification exam preparation course for the first time. Residents are invited to attend a full-day workshop dedicated to preparing you for your written exam. Past examiners and recently certified graduates will present a series of didactic lectures focused on 13 subspecialty topics—with time allotted for Q&As throughout the day.

To maximize value for participants, you’ll be asked to complete a 90-multiple choice question (MCQ) practice exam a few weeks in advance. Anonymous results will be collectively analyzed to help lecturers tailor each lecture to the group’s needs. Attendees will also complete a shorter post-workshop MCQ test that recirculates the pre-test questions that participants performed the weakest on. You’ll have the chance to compare your pre- and post-workshop test results and recognize the knowledge you’ve developed from our day together.

Later in the weekend, you are also invited to sign up for an optional two-hour problem-based learning discussion (PBLD) to prepare you for your oral exam. Small groups will be paired with facilitators, who will guide you through common questions and provide feedback on how to respond to them. There is no additional cost for this event. You can now sign up when you complete your conference registration.
Please see the Ace It! A Prep Course for the Royal College Exam webpage for complete details.

2025 Resident Simulation (SIM) Olympics
We had a fantastic time at last year’s revamped Resident Simulation (SIM) Olympics and are delighted to be hosting the event for the second consecutive year. The format of this year’s competition has been revised to give you more time to connect with your peers in a fun and friendly environment. You’re invited to register as teams of 2–4—or as individuals who will be assigned to a group. Together, you’ll rotate through a series of escape room-style challenges that mimic various clinical scenarios.

In between rounds, you’ll have the chance to meet residents from programs across Canada, enjoy refreshments, play trivia games, and explore cutting-edge technology shaping the future of anesthesia care. The winning team will receive a cash prize and be honoured on CAS’ website. There is no additional cost for this event. See details about the SIM Olympics and how to register here.

2025 Residents' Oral Competition
Each year, residents are invited to submit an abstract. Doing so affords you the opportunity to enhance your resume, share your research with the wider anesthesia community, and form valuable connections with your peers. Accepted abstracts will be eligible for a Best Abstract Award, and the highest scoring abstracts by residents will be selected for the Residents' Oral Competition, which will take place during the conference. Come cheer your colleagues on, or prepare to step up to the mic!

Oh The Places You'll Go: A Panel on Unique Fellowship Opportunities (Sunday, June 22 – 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.)

This year the CAS Residents Section has organized an expert panel on unique anesthesia fellowships. Anesthesia fellowships traditionally focus on subspecialties like cardiac anesthesia, obstetrics, pediatrics, neuroanesthesia, regional anesthesia, and pain management. However, a growing number of innovative and non-traditional fellowships are emerging that allow anesthesiologists to develop expertise in novel areas, broadening their professional horizons. This panel will explore unique fellowship opportunities that extend beyond the traditional realms of anesthesia, highlighting areas such as helicopter medicine, trauma anesthesia, simulation training, medical education, and cancer pain management. View the program and filter by “Residents” for further details.
